It was my request that kicked off this discussion. This service is very important to me - I use my domain daily for the last 4 years now, it's synonymous with me. The additional level of automation you mention below is a great idea.

 

Second, I was a high-level Unix sysadmin at a large international ISP for several years - perhaps I could assist you here and there as has been volunteered before by others.

 

Third, I have a comment to make re defunct domains. There is a domain I would like to develop, however someone registered it before me. There is no web site for it, its listed nameservers have no record for it, the email addresses provided bounce and the telephone numbers given lead nowhere. I tried contacting the owners 3 years back while working full-time in IT and couldn't find a trace.

 

I understand it's in your policy not to hand over domains - I've read the FAQ and all it says. However, this one is just sitting there, unused. I would like to take over ownership of this domain and utilise it.

minutes ago.  If _only_ the nameservers are updated there should
in theory be no reason to have a manual step in there, you're right.
