David Jones wrote: Umm, the original question came from a guy in Oudtshoorn who complained that ZA NIC was rejecting his DNS servers (that's the place where he will host his WEB SITE, or forward from) - which are valid, because I did a tracert and they exist. Some bright spark asked him why he didn't host his WEB SITE in South Africa. Firstly one said anything about websites. I'm mearly speaking for the perspective of DNS hosting, which has nothing to do with "web sites" or whatever else. Secondly, you should find out who you're speaking to before preaching misinformation to them. You need to request the domain from the servers an look for an authoritative response to decide if they are 'valid'. The reason his lookup fails currently, is because ns1.bestptrhosting.com and ns2.bestptrhosting.com do not respond to queries at all. On top of this, the answer section returned by the correct server (ns3.bestptrhosting.com, I'm assuming) lists only ns3.bestptrhosting.com as an NS for the zone when it should return ns3 and ns4 as NS records for the zone. Basically, it's completely broken. Any more questions? -- Colin Alston <karnaugh@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> http://www.karnaugh.za.net/ 'CYNIC, n.
