I also have high levels of concern about this subject. I actually wasn't 
aware about it until now, thanks for bringing it to my attention, Colin! 
Just as an exersize  in what is possible, I managed to harvest 235 
unique email addresses from the list by using only a browser and the 
OpenOffice Calc spreadsheet. This took me about 15 minutes of fumbling, 
an experienced office worker would more than likely do better. A 
harvesting script will do so in seconds. :-)
