Henry, I am trying to resolve this problem I am having with this dns thing for the obmm.za.org. I asked someone with more expertise than I (I have none) to explain what is wrong. This person is acquainted with how to set up a za.org subdomain. Following is our conversation. Well, partly he's wrong and partly I think you and he are misunderstanding each other. He thinks that ZA NiC is going to add an A record (not a PTR record as he incorrectly states) to the za.org zone file for your webserver. That's not how it works. ZA NiC is a registrar (or registering authority, if you will) for the za.net and za.org domains. In other words, *you* have to set up the primary and one or more secondary nameservers for your domain (obmm.za.org), and ZA NiC simply adds the NS records in the za.org zone file to inidate these servers. To put it in plain(er) English: You're getting the entire obmm.za.org domain here, not just a mapping of the name "obmm.za.org" to a specific IP number. Your service provider has to configure two or more nameservers to be authoritative for obmm.za.org. They then have to give you the names and IP numbers of these servers. And THEN you can register your domain with ZA NiC, using the details provided by your service provider. Forward this to your tech support, if you wish, it should explain things. :-) -- V -----------end conversation---------------- I appreciate all you've done and your prompt replies. I hope this can be resolved as soon as possible.
